Toyota FT-1 Concept

These are modern times and the only way to make and impact is to design with an impact. Toyota's FT-1 concept car is pure performance. It is track-focused and a symbol that captures the energy and emotion we can expect to see in future Toyota designs.  It can accelerate 0 to 60 MPH with the top speed reaching 180 MPH. The interior is expected to be more refined, made better and aimed at the driver. Leaving racing fingerprints everywhere, the FT-1 is a hot concept vehicle and is sending shock waves across the industry.

The Toyota i-Road Is Unlike Anything You've Ever Driven

If this is Toyota's vision for the future, lets ride...

Odds are, you've got to experience an all-new sensation. From a stomach dropping roller coaster to driving your first car, we've all experienced "butterflies". Toyota is giving butterflies to those awaiting news whether their three-wheeled, I-Road prototype, will hit the production line.
The all-electric i-Road is one of Toyota's transportation answers for cities of tomorrow, which are projected to experience huge population growth in the coming decades.

When you first start the i-Road, you first have to wait a few seconds as the gyroscope and accelerometers adjust themselves. This makes the vehicle wiggle. In motion, the i-Road uses the gyroscope and sensors to stay balanced while employing two features that create a truly distinct driving sensation: an active leaning system, and a caster-like rear-wheel hub that operates independently of the vehicle. Compare it slalom skiing; rhythmic side-side motion. Driving the i-Road is definitely going to be different than driving a car, with the gyroscope keeping the center of the vehicle balanced and the rear hub moving separately, turning in the i-Road is more like pivoting on a central axis. Even though the i-Road is built to go only 35 mph, that's still enough speed to make you feel like you're going to tip over heading into a corner. You won't. The engineers have worked hard to make sure that doesn't happen. The i-Road's lithium-ion battery charges using a 110-volt charging port located in a compartment just below the single-wiper windshield. A full charge takes three hours, and it has a range of about 30 miles. That's more than enough for most urban transport.

If nothing else, the i-Road is an interesting engineering exercise, but it also makes a lot of sense as another option for people living in urban areas. Considering the positive feedback Toyota has received so far from its testing program, it sounds like there's a good chance the company will make some sort of production vehicle.

While you wait for the i-Road to "hit the road," you can shop our current inventory at www.smarttoyotaquadcities.com or visit our showroom located at 1501 East 53rd. St. Davenport, IA. 52807 where you can speak with a member of our Toyota Certified Sales Team. We look forward to hearing from you.

Which tires are right for your car?

As we head in to winter, Smart Toyota encourages everyone to take notice of their tires.  The tires your car is riding on can have a dramatic impact in several ways.  They help determine your gas mileage, how your car handles, breaking distance, how it rides, and how it performs in different types of weather.  There are differing opinions on whether different tires  for winter are necessary or even advantageous if you live in an area where climates are varied.  Here, we try to help guide you through the process of choosing which tires are best for your car.

A few tips when deciding:  Consider your driving conditions, as well as your driving habits.  If you live in an area where snowfall is prevalent and you drive "aggressively" no matter the conditions, then  you are probably a good candidate for snow tires.  They will help with your braking distances, keeping you and those around you safer.  Even if you are a cautious driver, snow tires are something to consider.  All-season tires simply can't be the best tires for all seasons, they are designed to be acceptable for all conditions.
Buy the best tires you can afford.  Especially living in the Midwest, we never know what the weather will bring us.  Having the best tires on your car you can might keep you out of an accident, and will help your car perform better.

Contact our Service Department today to schedule an appointment to make sure your tires are ready for winter!

The 2016 Toyota Mirai

Be the Next Trailblazer.

The 2016 Toyota Mirai. A fuel cell vehicle. A turning point from the inside out.

So what is a fuel cell vehicle? It all starts with hydrogen. When hydrogen is pumped into a vehicle, the gas travels to carbon fiber reinforced fuel tanks where it is stored. The FCV's (fuel cell vehicle) front intake grills deliver outside air to the fuel cell stack. The hydrogen travels from the tank to the fuel cell stack where is goes through a chemical reaction involving the oxygen in the air, thus creating electricity to power the vehicle. When you push the gas pedal, electricity is then sent to the motor. The end result? Nothing but water. The creation of electricity through hydrogen and oxygen results in a by-product we can't live without: water.
